Best engagement ever

Just had to share this amazing engagement story, mainly because it involves two people who are dear to us; Joe and Jill. Joe is a marine and Jill is a physical therapist! He organized this most elaborate treasure hunt for Jill sending her to different locations throughout the D.C area each with a Marine in dress blues with a single rose and a question she had to answer! The last rose led her to Joe at the Lincoln memorial accompanied by all the handsome marines in their dress blues which of course drew a crowd. That's where the question was finally asked, "Will you marry me?" Oh and he hired a photographer (Michelle Cross) to capture it all, what a guy.
SO GOOD (girly squeal!)

Here they are waiting for her arrival.

surprise Jill!

Glorious.

Our family photoshoot

Sweet kiki took some family photos of us for me!! Found out hubs will be unavailable for the ball, major bummer. But made the most of some ball gowns and used em for our pictures!! Smiles all around, that is except for Gideon who choose our picture day to uncooperate (putting it nicely!)

Coral lips

Our weekend was jam packed and included a tour of the helicopter hangar, I've been a couple a times but remain amazed! Hardly ever wear lipstick but thought I'd be bold and go for coral to brighten the backdrop of all that dark green!

Possible

image here

I'm back from what was most certainly a life changing and sacred one day trip to Indiana!! While I'm treasuring the details in my heart, I do want to share that anything is possible (with God)!! Let's just say my family history contains some less than desirable events  I'd rather not inherit and am determined to change. While it may be imPOSSIBLE to change the past its possible to determine the future.
Thank you Lord for encouraging me to step out of the boat because you made me walk on water the rest of the way!

Burnin idols

image here

It all came to a head when I heard a sermon at church on sunday about Jonah...you know the one who got swallowed by a whale? The prophet who never really got it?! Well, sometimes that's me too, it usually takes me more than one time to get the message. Here's the message I need to burn some idols in my life....I know your thinking idols? Well everyone's got em....anything that takes the place of God. For me, its this dang computer, I'm always on it! So I'm gonna step down from posting as frequently here on Johns Journal because with the photography gig, working as a nurse, being a mom and wife...something's gotta give. It really became apparent when I couldn't figure out where my husband was yesterday! He's gone so much I could have sworn he was in D.C when he was in the Northeast! Yep that actually happened! How embarassing not to mention what a bad wife! Just wanted to give everyone a head's up that I'm still here just trying to maintain priorities! Don't worry will still be keeping everyone updated aplenty!
Love you guys: you continue to be an inspiration and encouragement.
Off to Indiana for a few days, see ya thursday!

State fair

I will never tire of the State fair, the bright colors, animals, rides, and did I mention fried oreos? Oh yeah, we ate those along with crabcakes and fresh lemonade. I will be back next year.

Favorites Friday: Photog love

Just had to share all the photography related web goodies out there I've been pouring over, devouring as much as I can; love learning new things!!

Katie's wedding pictures are citrusy sweet captured by cooper carras

Leslie has become my photog mentor, so thankful; her work is brilliant, leslie and b photography

Gobbling up drewb photography's work and site, perfect for aspiring photog's with lots of questions!

Sheye Rosemeyer from Australia does some amazing things with light! I'm really digging her photoshop actions. But it's her vulnerability and story that is sheer power.

Fall to-do list

I love New Jersey for my hometown friends and the produce! Totally inspired me to get my fall to-do list going!
Here goes:
attend Virginia State fair
camping in the Blue ridge mountains
explore Luray caverns
pumpkin carving
make butternut squash soup
capture fall on film

Some snippets from my jersey weekend, by the way I'm from the southern part of the state, think farmlands and fruit stands!

Got any other fall ideas? Happy Fall!
